To access the City of Highland Floodplain Ordinance, see Chapter 26 of the City of Highland Municipal Code.
The City of Highland participates in the National Flood Insurance Program which is administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Our current maps were completed and became effective on November 5, 1986. Highland has experienced significant growth since then. A re-study of the Floodplain in Highland was performed in 2003/2004. The public appeal period for the proposed new maps expired in October 2009. The City did file an appeal on behalf of several property owners. The City has not received confimation that the appeal has been reviewed. From what City Staff has seen, the propseed new maps are slated to become official in July 2010.
IF YOUR PROPERTY AJOINS A CREEK OR DRAINAGE DITCH, THERE IS A FAIRLY GOOD CHANCE THAT A PORTION OF YOUR PROPERTY MAY BE CONSIDERED TO BE IN THE FLOODPLAIN.
ANY WORK PROPOSED IN OR ADJACENT TO THE FLOODPLAIN MAY REQUIRE A PERMIT.
