The Highland Parks & Recreation Department will once again be offering a walking program for individuals interested in getting into shape throughout the summer. The program, "Walk Your Way to Better Health" is a free program that allows interested individuals to walk at their own pace, throughout various portions of the city, with the start and finish being at the Weinheimer Community Center.
The program will offer individuals the opportunity to start with a half mile course and build to another half mile every two weeks. Every two weeks a new course map will be made available that entails a new route that will traverse throughout a different portion of Highland.
The intention for this program is to promote health, showcase various sections of the city and offer each individual the opportunity to use this program as a motivator to achieve better health using attainable goals. This is also a great way for people to relieve stress, build friendships and tour areas of Highland that one may not normally see.
The process for taking part in this program is to register at the Weinheimer Community Center, weekdays between the hours of 8:00 am -12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm, beginning Monday, April 5th, 2010. Upon registering, each individual will receive a 'training log' and course map where they can record the date, distance and length of time they walked. After that, individuals can start their walk and begin enjoying the benefits of better health.
