The following is a list of our projects:

6th St Project
Submitted by Jeff Dortch

The project includes the installation of new storm sewer from Walnut east to Lemon St., Lemon St. north to the creek, removal and replacement of concrete curb and gutter from Walnut to Pine, and milling and overlaying the asphalt surface from Walnut to Pine.

Work completed this week includes completion of the new concrete curbs & gutters, pouring of commercial driveway aprons, and new sidewalks at various locations.

Planned work for the upcoming week includes continuing installation of driveway aprons at a number of the businesses along 6th St and new sidewalks. The contractor will also begin final grading and seeding to restore areas disturbed by the construction.

Silver Lake Low Level Outlet Works Reconstruction
Submitted by Joe Gillespie

The city is replacing the Low Level Outlet Works structure that is located just off of the dam near the spillway.  The LLOW structure has been inoperative since shortly after its construction.  The spillway and dam structure, including the LLOW, are designed to convey a 500-year flood event without damage to the spillway system or dam.  The LLOW is used to work in conjunction with the spillway to relieve flood water and prevent overtopping of the dam and compromising the dam structure.  The LLOW does not currently comply with the requirements as set by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.  Maintaining the integrity of the dam and all appurtenances protects the City’s water supply.

The gates were installed earlier this week which completes the outlet works structure. Plocher Construction will begin removing sheet piles, leveling sheet piles that are staying, and installing rip rap along the bank next week. The contractor expects to return the area to normal within the next 3 weeks.

Poplar St. Widening and Resurfacing Phase 2
Submitted by Clint Conrad

The proposed improvement to Poplar Street will consist of widening, where necessary, the existing pavement and resurfacing the roadway to construct a 32-foot wide pavement.  The pavement will service two 12-foot vehicular lanes and two 4-foot bicycle lanes.  The improvements include a roundabout at the intersection of Poplar Street and Broadway.  Scheduled improvements include concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk on one side and storm sewer.

Verizon has completed transferring service from old to new poles. The contractor is scheduled to begin placing storm sewer along Broadway Monday of next week.
